This is the fourth article in a 12 part series on How to Plan and Improve Your Life in which I discuss how to write and use a strategic plan for your life. If you haven’t already read the previous articles, I suggest you do so to get an overview of the topic. In this article I will be discussing how to get a compelling vision for your life —-
In writing and using a strategic plan for your life, you begin by assessing your current life situation, then prioritize your values, and get a compelling vision for your life that includes the things you value most. When doing so, it is always best to do it with God. In fact, whenever you are doing anything significant, and whenever you are doing other things, as much as possible, do them consciously with God. Ask for wisdom, guidance, strength, and whatever else you need. Together with God, you can create a compelling vision for your life and make it real.
Your vision for your life is the image you create in your mind of how you want your life to be. It is your picture of your future life, and it should be what you want, not what other people want for you. Your vision provides inspiration and guidance for you. If we do not know where we are going, we can end up anywhere, we can get lost, and yes, we can even perish. But if we have a vision, we can use it as a compass to guide our lives. You have the presence and power of God within you to create a compelling vision for your life.
Take the time to create a compelling vision for your life. Sit in a quiet place, pray for guidance, and use your imagination. Use your thoughts and go beyond your way of life. Focus on your future life, rather than on the way you live at the moment. Think about having a better life, your best life, or the life of your dreams, and visualize it clearly in your mind. See it in as much detail as possible.
Pre-actualize your compelling vision. Try to experience it in your mind using all of your senses, and convince yourself that it will happen. Make it extraordinary. Include things such as your health, wealth, relationships, love, peace, joy, and things you would like to do, be, have, experience, enjoy, and share.
Imagine how you would feel if you were living your dream life today. Feelings are very important in the co-creation process as we tend to do things we feel strongly about. We co-create with God and others. Does your vision inspire you, excite you, and make you feel compelled to take action? If so, then you have a compelling vision. When you have finished visualizing, thank God in advance for your better life and believe that it will manifest.
Compelling visions motivate and energize us. They provide the impetus to keep us going when we face challenges, many of which are learning opportunities in disguise. As you create your vision for the life of your dreams, do not settle for merely satisfactory. Too many people settle for satisfactory and live mediocre lives. This is your life and your opportunity to co-create a better life or the life of your dreams and enjoy the rest of your life. Do not let anything or anyone stop you.
When you have finished visualizing your dream life, summarize it in your mind. Write a short vision statement for your strategic plan and a copy to use more often. Keep it where you can see it regularly. Use it as a reminder of your aspiration and as a guide in making major decisions about your life. Focus on your compelling vision for your life regularly. Try to do so in a quiet place at least twice a day—before you fall asleep at night and first thing in the morning. This will help to program it into your subconscious mind and set the tone for your day. Believe that your vision will manifest. See yourself succeeding and focus on the end results. Keep your focus; be passionate about your vision; take the necessary actions; and you will see how your vision will manifest in your life.
In the next article I will be discussing the importance of knowing your purpose. Meanwhile, I would love to hear from you and about your progress, so please leave your comments below.
